so we're preparing ourselves for a no type marathon: in the next 7 weeks, there will be 2 new releases every week, from collaborators new & old: matrix assimilation, james schidlowsky, zammuto, oeuf korreckt, speech.fake, viratone ballad, not to mention no type's newly appointed field agents philémon girouard & aimé dontigny (under his atomes lourds guise). all that, until october 1st, which as some of you know, is no type's second birthday! as the weeks go, more information on the forthcoming releases will be posted. for now however, let's concentrate on what's new this week.
anaesthesia.
anaesthesia is part of no type history: one of the 3 original releases, their self-titled album gathered rave reviews &
thousands of downloads; no mean feat considering those mp3s were sometimes 7 or 8
megabytes of size! almost 2 years later, this is their new album featuring more home
recordings of the experimental kind. this time, they forsook the "ambient" route &
went for the jugular: electric violin, keyboards & various oddball instruments make
this a baroque joyride, culminating into the epic "part 3", which as you may have
guessed is the follow-up to "part 1" & "part 2" from their previous album. all in
all, you'll go from trippy overloaded swooshes (as promised in the title, "organic
phase smear") to cleancut, improvised jams, with all the virtuosity & irony we've
come to expect from these guys left intact.
l'île de béton.
we would have you believe that l'île de béton is some theoretical high-brow
anti-entertainment rhetoric disguised as music, but then we'd be bullshitting you a
bit. so why not say it as it is: this is the meeting of one turntable and one casio
keyboard. the results: inimaginably obscure yet strangely funny. the whole spectrum of
pop music is slain to death (or at least something rather painful): pat benatar, a-ha,
sugar hill gang, the black hole (yep, the disney movie) & so much more you'll fall
on your knees crying just thinking about it ~ so why bother, just go listen to the damn
thing!
tomas jirku finally on cd!
it's now officially out: tomas jirku's debut cd, variants, has just come out on the
respected alien8 recordings. as you may know already, the "variants" have been released
on no type a few months ago to great success, & after their complete deletion from
the site, the best selections have been reworked & pasted on this 12-track cd. what
to expect? profound, yet highly digital dub lines served with solid click beats. anyone
into pole, farben, kit clayton or vladislav delay ought to check this out, because
tomas is clearly in the same league. need proof? his next (yet untitled) cd is poised
to come out on mille plateaux affiliated label force inc. also on the burner is a
projected reissue of tomas' no type classic immaterial, as well as some material he
made in a more idm-ish vein.
coming up in seven days & seven nights...
next week should hopefully be less hectic, but come to think of it, no less insane.
first, philémon girouard (napalm jazz) greets us with his first no type release,
including a short story from alexandre warren. & then halifax-based noise thinker
cal crawford aka speech.fake will present us with, well, loud & oppressive music.
& this will go on for the next weeks after that so come back often! & don't
forget to send us your comments about the site & the music, as we enjoy hearing
from our ever-supportive visitors! (& even the unsupportives ones. :)
