there’s a notypian tradition that has us participate every year to montreal’s own suoni per il popolo festival, often paired with a friendly label. this year, we’re partying it up with ekumen, & it’s happening june 11 at casa del popolo.
featured that evening: none other than Nicolas Bernier (whose CD Les arbres we’re releasing incessantly, right?), but also Martin Messier & Ensemble Camp. visuals will be manned by to the great Urban9 & there will even be a sound installation in the garden, thanks to Olivier Girouard. a whole world for just $7! write it down in your calendar…
two more things. you must have noted the arrival of a brand new free release today: Il Buono Il Brutto Il Cattivo: Études, from the trio of Alexis Bellavance, Nicolas Bernier & Érick d’Orion. it’s good stuff, so go & listen to it now. & a quick kickback to the nice people at tangente.org who have made no type their catch of the day. see you next week for the Eucci compilation!

OK, so the no type site is running in full steam again, following one of our regular hiatuses & so here’s a preview of what you can expect in the coming weeks.
first, the one we’ve been hyping most lately is obviously Nicolas Bernier because of his upcoming CD, Les Arbres, which is going to be a hit (if only in our own ears). what you might not know is that, as some sort of teaser, a trio of Nicolas with Alexis Bellavance & Érick d’Orion will be presenting a nice little EP-length release of their new collaborative project… this thursday!
want more? but of course. next up is a brand new release from Coin Gutter (their great comeback following the stellar All Your Dreams Are Meaningless) with the great, great full-lenghter Pigeonless. we’ll also welcome back our good friend Galerie Stratique with his follow-up to Point d’orgue from (argh!) 2006. another unexpected comeback is Mille-Pattes main (mad)man Mathieu Bourret with a brand new project that happens to sound completely different & which, i think, will blow you away.
panospria is also on a roll, with the great return of breakbeat professor Blakkar Noir, whose previous album Tsunami Tendertimes continues to be a hit around those parts. another panospria discovery is The Primes, whose debut is set to come out in the first week of june.
this summer is most likely going to be a time to relax & listen to those great tunes, but we’ll certainly take the opportunity to release some old stuff in our prized annexe collection. but you won’t have to wait for summer to hear Eucci’s long awaited odds-&-ends collection, Coast Days and Cruel, out may 22 & featuring two whole sides of great tracks from limited releases & some that were simply unreleased.
& there is more… in the form of reissues from the immortal (but currently unavailable) subverseco catalogue! what’s subverseco, you ask? well, we’ll get back at you with an answer… prepare for a great summer!

Les arbres, Nicolas Bernier’s brand new CD, will be launched during mutek 2008, more precisely on may 28, 2008 at 8 pm, at théâtre du nouveau monde.
this will be part of an audiovisual concert also featuring new yorkers Morgan Packard & Joshue Ott, not to mention none other than Murcof with visuals from xx+yy. without a doubt a great moment from this festival. more details on mutek’s official website!
(oh, & did you know that our good friends from Heart & Soul will be opening for Underground Resistance the same night? & that we’ll be hearing Martin Messier with Jacques Poulin-Denis the next day at 5 pm (& for free, too)? what can you do—no type & panospria just can’t help being in the house.)
(back tomorrow with some new Camp!)

a little friday bonus?

that’s a preview of the cover of the new no type CD by Nicolas Bernier in collaboration with graphic artist Urban9! a project that is as musical (that’ll seem self-evident to those who heard nicolas’ excellent EP Ail et l’eau faille, which you can download for free on this site) as it is graphical, with a particularly involved cover artwork containing six postcard-format pieces of artwork, specially illustrated by urban9 for this very project.
i guess the plan is, if we’re going to release CDs, might as well make them spiffy looking. so let’s just say everybody is going to want to own one of those… it’s being launched at this year’s mutek, so see you there! anyway, more details soon.
