nope, no news last week, we lacked some time for that, but we managed to release a new mini-album from camp, entitled is for lovers, with three fresh tracks that are, well, quite catchy it seems. in the meantime, the album broke popularity records (2100 downloads in a week!), partly thanks to a short review in de:bug magazine. as it’s written in german, we only understood the adjective “killer”, which we suppose means the reviewer didn’t hate it too much. anyway, camp is happy & he swears he’ll release more of that stuff soon.
as for this week’s new release, it is by martin messier, another montrealer warmly recommended to us by his colleague nicolas bernier. & as a matter of fact, we liked his project et si l’aurore disait oui… to ask him to release it with us. as with all hybrid, poetic musics, this one is as hard to describe as it’s good to listen to, so we’ll just say that those who gushed for nicolas bernier’s ail et l’eau faille (& we know there’s a lot of you out there) will most likely also feel elated here. anyway, just check back in next week for more wonderful surprises.

the things we do for you… yep, we heard you, we know you can’t get enough napalm jazz, you can’t get enough from this blessed (by satan) era where we played big mean noise on CKIA in quebec city, without caring much about the ears of our listeners or of neighbours. an era which, like an old, mite-infested roll of film, we have recovered for a mix entitled cassettes 1999-2000. cassette tapes, as the youngest among you might not know, were he recording medium of choice for weirdos like us. that was before everyone bought a CDR burner & started recording pretty much everything they did, without selection or economy. an era of wisdom.
& while we’re at giving you such live music, let’s talk gigs. first, a CD launch, that of geisteswissenschaften, a first “real” solo CD from a_dontigny. that will happen in ottawa, at club SAW, along with nicolas bernier. it happens this wednesday, june 13, starting at 8 pm. pay what you can.
then, no type will be back this year at suoni per il popolo festival (in montreal) along with fellow netlabel panospria. it’s june 24 at casa del popolo, starting at 9 pm, door $7. you’ll hear a lot of people including our “international guest” carrie, from mexico, but also a_dontigny, milliseconde topographie & camp in a rare solo performance. from panospria, we’ll also hear yellowknives & the fold.
&, even more remarkably, everyone’s favourite psychedelic band the unireverse, is off to europe for a tour starting, well, right now. here’s their itinerary, copy-pasted here for your own personal education:

a little trivia: how many albums does no type have? the answer? we think there were 133 in total (not counting the 21 on no type: annexe). that said, there are some that were deleted with time, others are CDs, and some have weird catalogue numbers. which means that the fact, today, that we are presenting album “number 100”, is perfectly arbitrary & symbolic. actually, we’ve had 100 releases for a bit now. but we’re happy to write that number anyway. 100, 100, 100, 100, 100. i’m not getting tired of it. aw yeah.
& what do we have to celebrate this round number? a special compilation? a remix album? something like that? no way, we’re just doing what we do best, that is, release great music as usual. except that today, yep, there is something special indeed: the return of eryk salvaggio. who was with no type from the very beginnings. his new project, also featuring katia perdoni, is called the twombley spiders & their debut album is called the twombley spiders and the five racoon army. very salvaggiesque this. & most importantly very very good. to tell the truth, we were holding this one off specially for release 100, because we didn’t want you to miss out on this great comeback.
& as a bonus, to celebrate this three digit number? we’ve added a couple more songs for you to hear, all coming from three 2002 CDs: first our famous compilation the freest of radicals, & then two solo albums, magali babin’s chemin de fer, & oeuf korreckt’s podweek. all this adds up to radio no type.
well, that’s enough for today, as for us, we’re going to get ourself a self-congratulatory beer & we’ll get back to you next week with… something.
