intro >> i was going to start this newsletter by apologizing for the nth time about how we're late in delivering this long-awaited update & whatnot, but hey, at this point, you're just going to have to bear with us while we're getting our act together. hopefully we will make up for this ever-prevalent lagness (around here we call this "laidbackness") with this dual crop of new releases. after last week's blasts from the (near) past, we are now stepping into the hard, cold present with two recordings which share the property of being fairly horrifying in their own ways...

030: philémon + alex warren >>
_philémon_ is the saxophone player from _napalm jazz_ & has devoted much of his time outside of the band fabricating his own music. the first of it to see the light of day, Potlatch W came in fact from some sort of a dare, in the form of an actual potlatch (in true guy debord style, & please do expell us) with _alexandre warren_ providing the other half of the exchange with a short story which, unfortunately for non-francophone visitors, can only be read in the original language. feel free to offer to translate it, but who knows, we may just do it ourselves at some point in the future if such a thing is requested. but what about the music? bare korg lines, lossy pick-up hiss & other audio damage. oh, & beats. why, you could dance to it...

031: speech.fake >>
hailing from beautiful halifax, nova scotia is noise artist & producer _cal crawford_. on top of running his own record label, impulse to injury, cal makes difficult music ~ though here you must understand "difficult" in the sense of _ralf wehowsky_ or _merzbow_ ~ under the name _speech.fake_. his work is appearing for the first time on no type with Image type/composite, an suite of 8 intense noise pieces, creating some of the most beautifully unbearable atmosphere heard on disk anywhere by these ears. if you want to have an idea, just take a look at the artwork... just to add to the propaganda: impulse to injury will soon release a double cd compilation featuring the likes of _crawling with tarts_, _cock e.s.p._ or _voice crack_, not to mention _period three_ (ack!) you shall know more at some point whose location on the time-space continuum no one knows for sure.

eucci, at the jenifer st western >> _jeffrey shell_ aka _eucci,_ can't stay still; music of his keeps popping up on his web site & various locations around the internet. his latest installment is the result of "extra gear & many extra bottles of absolut mandarin" recorded at their once eastern headquarters, now doomed to be replaced by some corporate atrocity or another. this is live & this is available throughout september.

late mail >> i've been especially awful at keeping up with my mail until recently. if you've sent us anything in the past months & are wondering whether you'll ever receive an answer, well, you may just get one soon. at least know that i actually do read it!

the obligatory blurb about next week >> lag or not, the no type marathon continues, & 2 new releases are planned for next week (you know what i mean...) first off montréal based artist _james schidlowsky_, demonstrating his swooshes, & then the return of _matrix assimilation_ on the sampling machine (where else) with something pretty uhm... demented? why, you were expecting something normal? come on. you know better, don't you?
