Description

Et si l’aurore disait oui… is young Montreal composer Martin Messier on guitar (one note at a time), melodica (one black note at a time), voice (one syllable at a time), bass (one string at a time), glockenspiel (one hand at a time), piano (one finger at a time), and computers (audio and video at the same time). And when it’s all mixed up together, you get a complex and leftfield sound amalgam that is happily strange and sweetly idiosyncratic, while borrowing from certain (good) ideas of IDM, acousmatics, pop, folk and even prog. Basically, a more than pertinent addition to No Type’s catalogue circa 2007.

Martin Messier

Holding a diploma in drums for jazz interpretation, Martin Messier has completed a bachelor’s degree in electroacoustic composition at the Université de Montréal, and De Montfort University (England, UK). His curiosity for graphic arts has brought him to explore the relationship between sound and image, in which he discovered videomusic and digital motion graphics. It’s this same interest that inspires him to compose music for dance and theatre, the main part of his composition work in the last years. Recently, Messier has founded a solo project through which he develops live electroacoustic performance borrowing stylistic elements from IDM (Intelligent Dance Music), acousmatic and folk. Based on strong aptitudes for rhythm, Messier’s aesthetic can be defined as a complex, left field and happily strange sound amalgam, constantly playing with construction and deconstruction. → Full bio

nope, no news last week, we lacked some time for that, but we managed to release a new mini-album from camp, entitled is for lovers, with three fresh tracks that are, well, quite catchy it seems. in the meantime, the album broke popularity records (2100 downloads in a week!), partly thanks to a short review in de:bug magazine. as it’s written in german, we only understood the adjective “killer”, which we suppose means the reviewer didn’t hate it too much. anyway, camp is happy & he swears he’ll release more of that stuff soon. → Continued…
