Cal Crawford’s online debut, this recording under the name of Speech.fake packs some serious punch. Each of these 8 tracks is a tense microuniverse peopled with the acute sense of narrative this composer is well known for. A word of caution: some of these are particularly oppressive, unlike Crawford’s rather more serene subsequent output.
Cal Crawford, presently residing in Montréal, spent his formative years in the backwoods of New Brunswick. Using field, body, and situational recordings, he stages a strange and uncertain universe of sonic matter in a wholly dramatic and rigorous manner. → Full bio
